Questions, answered
Everything founders ask before claiming.
- Is it really free?
- Yes. Claiming and keeping a subdomain costs nothing, forever. Fair-use limits (5 claims per account, 3 pending) stop spam, not you. There is no paid tier and no renewal fee.
- How do I claim a name?
- Search a name on the homepage, sign in with Google or GitHub, then tell us your DNS value (A, CNAME or TXT), what runs there, a preview link, a one-line description, your reason and a social profile. An admin reviews it, usually within 48 hours.
- How long does approval take?
- Usually within 48 hours. An admin reads your reason, opens your preview link and checks the name against the blocklist before publishing DNS.
- What DNS records can I use?
- A, CNAME and TXT, DNS-only (proxy off). Point at Vercel, Netlify, Render, GitHub Pages or your own server. We create the record for you — you never touch our Cloudflare.
- Why is proxy always off?
- DNS-only records keep liability where it belongs: your content is served by your host, not proxied through our Cloudflare account. It also avoids edge-SSL surprises on your origin.
- Who can claim?
- Nepal startups and businesses only, judged by an admin from your reason, preview and social profile. You must be signed in; each claim needs a real reason (20+ characters) and a social link.
- Why was my name blocked?
- Bank, wallet, payment, government and big-brand names are blocked to protect everyone sharing the parent domain — one phishing subdomain can blacklist nepalistartups.com for all. If you own the trademark, contact us.
- Do names expire?
- No. Claims are permanent — no renewal, no expiry emails, no ransom. Names end only if you delete them or an admin suspends/revokes for abuse (24-hour takedown SLA, appeal via the abuse page).
